Year R's Visit to Rectory Farm - March 2010  NEW 

The youngest children at Grenville School recently visited the new arrivals at Rectory Farm, Water Stratford. Although the weather was not yet ‘Spring-like’, the children really enjoyed the chance to get close to the new-born lambs.

The children were made very welcome and the Farmer, George and his wife Ann were there to answer all of the children’s questions. The question that they all wanted to ask, “ How are lambs born?” was answered at the end of our visit when we were lucky to see the birth of two lambs from one Ewe.

The children were able to cuddle some of the lambs and bottle feed some of the ‘orphans’. It was a great opportunity for the children to learn about animals and how they are cared for, at close quarters and on a real farm. After their visit, the children were keen to write thank-you letters and draw pictures to send to George and Ann. We hope to return later in the Summer to see how the lambs have grown.

Hats For Haiti - Feb 2010

 Following the disastrous earthquake in Haiti, one of our Year 6 children was touched by the reports she saw on the television and approached the Eco School Council to request that, as a school, we did something to support the families and people in Haiti. The Eco School Council acted upon this suggestion quickly and promptly organised a ‘Hats for Haiti’ day.

 All children were invited to wear a hat to school for a donation of at least £1. Many Grenville children embraced this and made their own hats / modified existing ones. Others wore a hat from home.  There was a huge range including Grandad’s flat caps, woolly beanies, Star Wars character hats to hats worn at weddings. The teachers all wore hats too and contributed to the fundraising. Further funds were raised through a big cake stall after school for which many children spent the evening before making and icing delicious cakes.

 In total the children raised £284.92 for this worthwhile cause.
